Happy Anniversary

 To John & Louise on their 36th Wedding Anniversary 2020

Through the humid hues of Hong Kong's high-risers,

exhausted motorbikes rolled on under electric starts -

painted by techno franchisers,

and captured in one couple's memoirs.

Spirits like the sun rising in the east,

they pirouetted through the Western club.

Knowing that their solo lives had then ceased,

they smiled deliriously at their Cantonese grub.

John and Louise with dress up and gin,

travelled and laughed in times bygone.

To this day, their adventures within,

are crafted in minds, and thus live on.

Six children later and residing in Knook, 

both John and Louise withdraw their cartridge photo-book.

With sepia slides of her auburn hair,

two twins watch the journey of their exotic love affair.

Under the Judas tree in Chinese violet,

they record the song of the handsome blue-tit.

With digestives in hand and tea in the other,

their smiles remain like those of a lover.

Buried under those glistening eyes,

their youngest girl sees hidden cries.

Her naïve soul so sad and blemished,

thanks her parents for not having perished.

Years of anguish and a dim search light,

have saved their daughter from fatal plight.

This girl admires the strength of this pair,

who have suffered the turmoil of mental warfare.

Best friends to this girl they shall forever be,

despite fears of that screeching, mythic banshee.

With coffee in Debs and a pint in the pub,

the girl will ask about those Asian night clubs -

where this beautiful pair danced all night long, 

and where their love promised to be life-long.

Your lives and hearts full of cheer,

have created a family who hold each-other so dear.
