The Brevity of Life
Gratuitously wave amidst the
Stifled wind at Porter's House -
An insufferable abode
Of repressed love,
Disguised by idle chat
Over a long-awaited lager.
Am emotional disaster.
Faster.
Time runs out.
Lettuce warps under the succulent hues
Of bubbling butter
In sunshine.
Olives lay saturated in brine -
Forgotten beside the key-lime
Pie of poetry.
Goblets of gelato glisten
And listen to the emotional cries
Of a cockapoo,
Whilst children dance under
The dreams of people parched;
Arched in aching abject poverty.
Those who cross the sea.
A reduced chicken sandwich
Betrays the brevity of life.
A sublime strife -
For something so simple.
Her untouched dimple
Rests upon her sleeping man,
Creamed and shiny like seedless jam.
Naked chests.
Sweat-soaked vests.
Pizza pomodoro
Caresses blades of sun-scorched grass.
A fanciful farce
For a first date.
It is getting late.
Time is running on.
The suffocating heat of summer
Is glummer
When gorgeous.
Darkness descends,
And to her murderous friends,
The crow calls.
Lager-filled veins
Rein
The world -
Wishing for
Remains of a day
Snuggled under the blankets
Of sojourners who
Kiss falling flakes
Of snow.
Aromas of freshly baked dough
Merge with the music
At Chango.
Tajin tainted Mango -
The spice of Mexico
Seduced by the sweet
And sour subtlety
Of grieving
Those warm winter wishes
Made over a hot toddy,
An emaciated body -
Breathing in the brevity
Of life.
You are so clever Rhiannon! Thought provoking and poignant! Brilliant as always! š„°
