The Unravelling
As I float in unfathomable time,
Fluffy cinnamon swirls
Whirl
Within a chlorine-crafted whirlpool,
And fractions of icing sugar flake
As though sunburnt skin
U n t e t h e r i n g from tangible,
No longer needed
T r a n s g r e s s i o n s,
Kneaded
At day break
On Strasburg Road -
Far from France
And Strasbourg's cookie-clove-
Cobbled alcoves.
Fragments of a time transcending the r e a c h
Of my famished
Front crawl-ing hands.
A single shoelace
Pirouettes past my fissured face
Gasping for air.
A partial noose
In need of bait
To translate
Into something more sinister
Than a sojourner silenced
By the unbearable condition
Of permanent impermanence.
A clear quartz crystal of icing sugar
Settles upon this driftless stray,
Transforming delinquency into a delicacy;
A delicate design woven in water
For none to see,
But an ephemeral me -
The girl unravelling.
