Dan & Charlie’s Wedding Poem

DAN & CHARLIE CROKER
(Read at their wedding on Saturday 10/08/2019)

An acrobat danced in Covent garden’s square-
Whilst twighlight descended upon Saturday’s reckless air.

Liquor ordered in August’s heat,
By commuters who danced to London’s delinquent beat.

Elle and I, as we left Hyper Japan,
And strode past the contorted stunt man-
Were scheduled to meet Dan and Charlie,
Who stood upon the terrace at the Punch and Judy, sipping Lemon kissed G & T.

Ladies gossiped cheerfully,
As I approached Charlie with excited uncertainty.
I overheard her giggle-
Sip at her tipple-
And within seconds I came to love her, more than a little.

As though an Iris stood before a summer storm,
Beauty dwelled in her artistic human form.
With fire brick lipstick and charcoal black hair,
-an image roused from Vanity Fair,
She stood there, oblivious to this budding affair.

Whilst painting a city-scape of ancient blue stars
Twighlight whispered for us to retreat to one of London’s vaulted bars.
As Elle led the way to a brick- beamed grotto,
Exotic aromas transcended plates of risotto.
We reminisced about times now gone,
And memories made that will nostalgically live-on.
The army and Dorchester, a distant past,
Stand amidst a backdrop of love that shall forever last.

Danny has been with me from the dawn of my life,
And as we let him go to our future sister and his new wife-
We dreamily look upon the two with care
Knowing that this union is both beautiful and rare.

As time drifted on and December loomed,
Invitations to Meg’s birthday and News years resumed-
Charlie arrived with Lou in tow,
Whilst Dad poured unaccountable glasses of rich Bordeaux.
Nibbles were eaten and make-up applied,
Whilst new relationships weaved into this Yuletide.

We treaded to the Woolpack on a white lace quilt,
Conversing and laughing about memories just built.
When we arrived and more wine was bought-
Quiet ascended whilst the family thought-
Of what to order on this cold, crisp night-
Filled with joy and lambent candle light.

Not before long, the pub surrendered-
To ricochets of laughs, that were utterly unintended.
With Louis, Lou and Charlie, Our family of eight-
Became something altered- but something truly great.
—-

Little did we know that in years to come-
That the fun had only just begun.

Now as I conclude, I would just like to say that:

My brother Dan is a true British hero,
And words cannot describe
How happy, proud and honoured I am-
To be by both his and Charlies side.

So here is to them, and to BTP-
And later, let’s raise a glass to this family.
